  1. I know you are trying to contribute, and thank you. However, most of us know each other off the board, have for years. Most of us here know the game, the team very, very well. We do not need pictures to show us what some one is saying. Every team has plays designed to get some one open on any given play, running or passing. However, each pass play is deterined by the coverage of the defense. If Brown were to get open deep, he would get the pass. It all depends on the coverage, no always on the play called, even without an audible by Flacco. Some plays call for reading deep to short, others, short to deep, some right to left or left to right. If they get the proper coverage, the coverage they expect, then yes, the first read is the play they were hoping for. However, if they get a different coverage, then that play, again even without an audible, can change so the proverbial second option now becomes the first. Most here know this, and no, it is not just an opion, it is an informed opinion, there is a big difference.,
  2. It has all been discussed here, no need to run over there, one just needs to pay attention.....
  3. At least Smith could cover in college, and the Ravens had a bid of a caveat, since college is a bit lenient on PI calls, allowing the db's to hand fight all the way down the field. Elam never could cover and usually missed tackles in college because he hit people instead of wrapping up on tackles. I was big mouthed on him being a bust when they drafted him and doubt there will come a time when I will have to eat my words. Brown has been a big disappointment, for me & the Ravens. He hasn't seen this field this year and likely won't save an injury, he just can't get the system down, even in practice he is out of position more than in....
  4. Um, yes because the offensive schemes with Charlie were outstanding, if you remember, he was making throws to wide open receivers who had quicks and could get away from man coverage with ease. Joe has not had that luxary, nice try Skip.
  5. So you watch fist take papa, that explains a lot........
  6. Come on papa, I showed you Brady's completion % compared to Joe's for the career, pretty close to even. This when Joe has had less to work with. And in your own words, He has had nothing compared to Brady. So give Joe a decent tight end and a good receiver, then we can talk. Yes, any player can have a good stretch, but doing so in the playoffs, on the road then in the Super Bowl, is much more difficult than in the regular season as Peyton Manning can attest. So hopefully the Ravens will draft a Phaoh Brown type tight end and atleast a very quick slot guy like Shaq Washington who can be used out of the back field on jet sweeps because unlike Torrey or even Jones, he can turn the corner on an ant, let a lone a dime..... Gey Kevin White and look out.....
  7. According to the game book he did and so did McPhee, who I wondered if he played.... They were both no shows, well, Hill had 1 tackle, McPhee had 1/2 a tackle and 1 qb hit, but little to no pressures. Dumervil only had one tackle and no, zip, nadda, 0 qb hits..... or sacks.......
  8. I happen to think with OD out, they should move Brown to tight end when wanting to utilize that position in the passing game. Just have him liune up there and let him run their routes. He would be a match up nightmare, eating up linebackers. He is currently useless as a wide out. I had higher hopes for him, maybe next year wil be better for him. Wasn't it Brooks who also did not get over in time in the first Bengals game when Green went for the game winning bomb?
  9. It was not a bad move, last year they had one of the worst offensive lines in the league. What, you expect Joe to be the best in the league with that crap and no wide outs? Look how well Brady did last year, into the first part of this year with crap..... Again, Brady is my proof; give him crap for blockers and wide outs, Brady is nothing, yet you expect Joe to be betetr than Brady? Come on papa, you are smarter than this.
  10. Brooks was drafted and considered by many, Oz included, to be a steal in the 3rd and to be a starter right away. In college, he could not cover, same with Elam, that was the knock on both of them and my biggest gripe when Ozzie drafted them both. They are both over rated and neither is a starter in this league in my opinion, what we see is what we will get as long as they play in the league. I'm not spoiled by Reed, he is a hall of fame player, they don't come around very often. But there were several other players, safeties, in the draft the Ravens could have drafted, several corners they could have gotten instead of trading up for an often injured slow, small wide out, or a tight end they could have had via the undrafted free agent mode. Gilmore is simply a blocking end, ok, he can catch a ball thrown right at him, but he has no speed, no quickness, no athleticsism. Those are the traits you draft in the 3rd & 4th round. Ozzie is slippping, has been, and it shows in last year's team and now is rearing its head this year. Poor drafts lead to poor teams.
  11. He is clearly a quarterback a team can win a super bowl with, that has been proven. Compare his stats career wise, to Brady, arguably the best ever. Brady has a career qbr of 96.1, to Joe's 84.3, Brady with 377 tds to 136 picks, Joe, 135 tds to 84 picks. Completion %, Flacco is 60.4 % Brady 63.5 % Brady has done this over 201 games to Flacco's 104 games. I think we can easily say, Brady has had a better offensive line for most of his career, while Joe has not. Brady, had had the better group of offnesive weapons over his career, while Joe has not. Is Flacco better than Brady, Peyton, Aaron Rodgers? No, not yet, may never be, just might be one day. All of that doesn't matter it is for the fans to discuss, but he is, to use an old phrase, a franchise quarterback. You may not like the money, but in today's NFL that is what it costs for a quarterback who can lead a team to and win a Super Bowl.
  12. Again, before Gronk got back, Brady, earlier this year and all of last year had his worst qbr and completion percent in his career. Prognoticators were saying the Pats are done, Brady maybe done, yadda, yadda, yadda... Gronk gets back, look at Brady's numbers, they are sic! Why? Because he finally had a weapon to take pressure off of the other, pedestrian receivers, leaving them one on one and with off coverage making the catches easier, less contested. My point, since Bolden left, who was this team's Gronk and then again since Pita got hurt, that is two very reliable, trust worthy receivers for the offense. Because Steve Smith is the only receiver Joe can count on to be where he is suppose to be and on time, Joe now has to hold the ball longer and wait for the receivers to get to the spot before he throws it, rather than throwing with antisipation. This makes a hiuge difference., Proof of this is in the games against weak secondaries who don't play bump & run, who don't press and who play a lot of soft zone. This is when Torrey, Smith Sr, and the others have big games. So give Joe a "Gronk", an athletic tight end, a receiver who is a fighter on the outside and taller than 5'-6" so there is a bigger catch radius. One who will be on time because they can get off of the line of scrimmage with ease and run a route that is difficult to read because of the way he runs it. See, even when Torrey, with his speed, makes a double move, the db doesn't buy it because Torrey only has speed and it takes him a good 15 yards to get to full speed. So the double move is make "soft" easy to read and slows Torrey down; easy to defend. He also can't hand fight and get away from a little holding. So you can say Joe needs to have a break out year, which he already did, but first get him a decent receiver & or tight end who can work against difficult db's. This will make a world of difference, just look at Brady's numbers for proof....
  13. I thought they were on a bye yesterday... But I agree, a stomping is coming that will shake up this team, show them to take a real look at it and the semi over haul it needs on offense.
  14. So far, about 50% of those all around the net and on tv/radio think the call was right, 50% think it was wrong. That pretty much says it should be a non call. Take that same play, all things being equal and put it in the endzone with no time left on the clock, a hail mary as it were. No call would be made. Yes, by rule it should have been called, but also by rule the holding the DB all the way down the field and even just prior to Smith's "push" should have been called. If the Db doesn't flop there is no call, since they didn't call it all game, there should be no call... But there was a call, this is why you don't leave it to the officials, it is over, time to move on....
  15. His contract is workable, we can look at Suggs and Dumervil for two contracts that set the team back five years if we want to play this game. Joe is young enough and good enough, hence his record play off run to and to win the super bowl, to keep restructuring it over the years; it is not a big deal. However, both Suggs & Dumervil are at an age and position that are not condusive to restructure. Back to the thread- Duke Williams at Aubrun is another great wide out; big, fast, large, strong hands, huge catch radius. He does need some work on routes, but he, like the others I mentioned so far, is a stud and not affraid to fight for the ball, nor to lay out to make the circus catch. He can be had, if he comes out, in the 2nd round likely, maybe the 3rd. This will be, if the under classmen come out,a great wide receiver draft, with Lippet from MSU, Strong from ASU and a host of others. Many will follow the mantra of Cooper from Bama being the world's greatest, but stay away, speed, yes, but small hands, mostly a body catcher, and I question his durability.... If you get a chance, watch the college games these players are in, especially White from WVA, and Washington from Cinci, Brown from Oregon.
  16. It wasn't all game, that is my point. There was plenty of that going on all game for both sides and rarely called.
  17. The thing is, they had the perfect play call on, zone to that side. The players were even in position to stop the pass, they both just stink and missed it entirely. There is not much more that can be done. I do agree, I would not have called for an all out blitz on 3rd & 10 when they need to drive the field for a touchdown.
  18. Ok old buddy, you are showing your ignorance here..... Again, the timing on this play was thrown off because of the need to escape the rush. All the other timing plays are now off the table because JOe an't trust his receivers to be where they are suppose to be.....
  19. They missed the holding being done TO Smith Sr and since they let them hand fight all the way down the feild, they should have let that stand. If the guy doesn't flop it is a no call.
  20. Atlanta didn't have the defense the Ravens do at this time and they actually drafted wr high a few times, getting White and Julio. This time around the draft should have just what the Ravens need at wide out,, ready made.We know, if Ozzie is still here then, he will go for the Bama wide out anyway, so skip another Bama bust and go for a wide out being compared to, and fairly, Randy Moss without the attitude.
  21. I'll give you the offense, the play calling included, but all on Joe, nope. Of his 17 or so incompletions, a good 7 had to be throw aways because no one was open & or he had no time. One of the picks was not on him, but on torrey who can't run a route and ran into a defender, on a timing throw nonetheless. But the defense allowed Redhead to only have seven incompletes, 7, and allowed them to drive the field routinely. Yes, they made two good plays to set up easy scores for the offense. However, half a yard to go, with two tries and the the team can't get the ball in to start the game? Aiken lets the ball go right through his hands on a perfect pass (horrible play call though). Shoot, he catches it or they just kick the field goal Ravens win. As usual, Harbs made another bad call.
  22. You realize the ball was thrown 65 yards, right? On the run, right? While eluding the pass rush, right?
  23. I accept your appology for calling those of us who called this loss, sissies...
  24. Cough, cough, Pitt is killing the Colts right now, when the seaon is over we shall who is the worst, maybe Cleveland, maybe the Ravens... Yes, I say this now with a 5-3 record, sticking with my preseason prediction. This team is who some of us thought they were. Better than the terrible teams, not as good as the average or better teams.
  25. Nope, they have gone that route (pun intended, unavoidable) in the past few drafts, look what it has gotten them; two terrible safeties and no depth at corner. So stick with the defense as is, and build the offense so that it doesn't come down to the officials or a defense stop at the end of the game. Enough is enough. The offensive line is good enough and has some depth. runningbacks can be had for cheap undrafted. Even the defensive line has good youth if they chose to keep it. After Ozzie retires at the end of this season, maybe the new GM will see it my way, it is the right way and only way....
