Maybe Redskin fans are waking up and realizing it's punishment to follow that team.

Hey! The 2000 Ravens won a Super Bowl with McAlister, Stokely and Mulitalo in their 2nd year and Starks in his 3rd. Jamal Lewis was a rookie.

I think Ozzie was in a tight spot. He probably thought Wilson was better but the CAP hit on Foxworth would hurt. Then he'd risk making the organization look bad because of Foxworth's role in the labor negotiations. Cutting him would lead to 10,000 articles on retaliation by the league on players who represent players in labor. Foxworth has been an outstanding rep in these negotiations. I am very impressed by his professionalism and excellent reporting on the key issues. In fact, I thought he made the Ravens organization look good by having one of their players who was capable enough to participate at a high level in something so serious and important. I'm not happy about what he said here after the negotiations...he's honest about the knee, but to imply that Ozzie and Steve would make him pay for his role in negotiations just doesn't set well with me. Foxworth is a Raven so the implication has to be aimed at his boss. There has been retaliation by NFL owners in the past and I guess there are retaliations in business everyday against employees who speak out. His commenmts don't sit well with me because Ozzie and Steve are the logical object of who would retaliate against him and they are 2 very good men. If this is true: " there has never been a time when a guy who has been as outspoken as I have against management has not had to pay some sort of price", then let's hope that the Ravens organization, on principle, is better than that. I believe Ozzie and Steve are....other owners???? No.

The talk is changing for Foxworth....everything was fine before he hit the field...before the Ravens lost Wilson... Jimmy Smith does not have a tear in his groin according to reports...just a strain.
-
Oh! Forgot! I'm very uncomfortable with the center situation. The Ravens have some bodies in camp, but until one of them shows he can take over for Birk, I will live my life in fear.
-
Well...we can't be there so the media has to be out eyes and ears. This of course means having to 'use their stuff' ..so we have stuff to talk about. Here's some tweets from today from the Ravens website... Let's read what our good friend Mike Preston saw today... On Tory Smith...

Hey varav! They couldn't even talk to Ngata or his agent until a new CBA was in place just a week ago, so, with all these FA's hitting the market, UFA's to sign, draft picks Ozzie probably hasn't slept. The Ravens need a solid back up QB or they will leave themselves wide open to fail in a SB run this year. I want Bulger, but if he's lost his balls to play, then I don't want him.... The Ravens are going smashmouth and I'm all for it. Harbaugh is obsessed with it. He can only have 1 3hour practice a day and he chooses this afternoon to do it!?! He will field the nastiest team he can. Forget Osi...he won't be half as productive in a 3/4 hybred D like the Ravens and he'll break the bank. Redding may not be half as good but he is not killing the CAP either. They could use another receiver...maybe Mason...but I like going young asnd all out to get speed and seperation at the wide out position. Joe just has to make it work with his new guys. Past experience tells me not to get too excited about any receivers the Ravens draft. Why can't these MoFo's grow a pair and catch the ball in games?...be the MAN! Most disappear, but maybe now that Joe doesn't have his security blanket in Heap and NMason that will change. OT??? Yea...a solid vet for insurance at LT would be good. At RT I keep hearing great stuff every day on Reid. The Ravens just signed another huge specimin/freak tackle (Alex Solot, a 6-foot-8, 316-pounder) to go with Harewood and Cousins. They just might be OK at RT. I think they are good at RB.

hehe...Heap made the deal with Arizona while he was in the Yets building! I will definately miss him. He was one fine, great Raven.
-
Amazing!'Good work Ozzie! I don't know how Ozzie did it but he beat out Houston where Leach was the past 5 years with the #1 RB in the NFL, Cowgirls, Broncos and Giants. Yea...he'll be a great addition here. Shades of Sam Gash.

Yea...here you go crav...

My guess it's a health and fitness issue. You really can't play football if certain parts of your body break down. A toe took a few years off Ogdens career. If it's attitude problems, then he's really stupid because he could be set for life if he goes all out to play football. Maybe he's like Russell who just wanted the money without the work. I doubt that. Maybe it's a maturity problem like Young. A healthy Gaither with his head set straight would be a valuable commodity in the NFL. I think fans and the Ravens had high hopes for him. I know I did. The potential was there to really help the O line and Joe. Instead, he negatively impacted the line, forcing them to shuffle players out of position which really killed the running game last year. Fortunetly the Ravens paid a small price to get him...supplimental draft instead of a 1st round pick.
-
One of my favorite Ravens but it would have been hard to watch him while his skills and impact decline. Seriously...he will be 35 this season with a ton of hard miles on him. The Chiefs have him for a year but he'll be a Raven for life. Even in decline, he is one of the tuffest players in the NFL. All heart and guts.
-
There our depth while these young guys develop. Solid insurance should the injury bug hit. He's versitile and smart.

Raven football is back and so much has happened in the 1st week. We've talked a lot about cutting Heap, Mason, Gregg and Willis. Maybe they get some of them back...maybe not...notice the absence of Heaps and Masons photos on the new season tickets. This was planned long ago. Chester, Landry and Wilson are gone. Current depth will cover that although I'd rather have Wilson than Carr. MCClean??? Tough call! I want him back because of his fire and attitude that he brings to the offgense. He's smashmouth. He's a Raven. But...is he at his peak and not worth the money long term that the current market could bring him? Will he fit into the offensive scheme or will a pure FB be better? They have signed a bunch of their own free agents: Yanda, Cary Williams, Morgan Cox, Ellerbe, McClain, Gooden, Nakamura, Zbikowski, Bryan Mattison and Cousins. All the draft picks are signed. To make the numbers game even crazier they signed 26 rookie Free Agents! How can a fan keep track of all these players when not being able to attend camp? You can't!... and that is a damn shame. I'd love to get a good look at their skills. So there are a ton of bodies to build the 2011 Ravens Team. True to form, Ozzie is waiting for the market to settle to get the best value. He doesn't have a lot of CAP space to work with so the Ravens will not kill their CAP and future for early, high priced Free Agents. We know this and have seen this year after year. They did it trying to repeat for the Super Bowl in 2001 and all it brought them is the huge CAP purge of 2002. They did it once, learned, and won't do it again. Reports are that during the 1st few days of camp they will try to sign Ngata to a new contract. That would lock up the best DT/NG in the NFL for years to come and create more CAP space. Let's hope it happens now and not in late August. And some things don't change...it was so good to see and hear Ray Lewis the first day of practice. The same fired up Ray: excited, passionate and ready to go. He could have made some excuse to beat the heat but he didn't. Cody is in great shape and Harbaugh tipped his plan and set the bar: "He is the starting nose guard, and we expect there to be no drop-off. We have had a tremendous amount of production from Kelly Gregg over the years, and Terrence Cody has to play at least as well as that. That’s the plan. That’s his responsibility, but I’m sure he can do it.” Jah Reid has reported in great shape as well and already has all the heads turning. Harbaugh said, "He stayed on the field in that heat for the complete practice. He signed his contract, went down and ran the conditioning test and then he went out and practice. Just like that. He made it through practice. He is one of the few lineman to make it through practice, so I think that says a lot about him. He is an athlete. For a man his size, he can really bend and move his feet and he is picking up fast. We don’t want to overstate it. How many weeks are we behind with these guys? And it’s only one practice, but so far, so good.” It will be Reid, Cousins and Ramone "Block out the Sun" Harewood battling for the RT spot. More importantly, it will be on the coaches to develop these guys because all of them have 'the goods' to be maulers and lock down that side of the line. With Yanda in the fold and Oher having a year under his belt the line could be set and stable. They have to find a replacement for Birk. He may make it this year and he may not. One of these guys has the opportunity of a lifetime to win a starting job in the NFL: Kindle is looking real good from press reports. Fast, fluid...he could be a wild card difference in the pass rush this year...take it to another level. So far it's a feel good story comming out of a stupid nightmare for Kindle. #52 on Kindle: "He’s a young kid that has a future, and now he can really go and pursue what he wants to pursue. And now, to see him out there running around and to see the smile on his face, just to be back on the football field, there’s just nothing more rewarding than being around that right now.” Yea...the pads are not on for anyone...there's been no hitting and that will seperate a lot of the guys who look good now, from those who will be 2011 Ravens. The Smith brothers are bringing it. Harbaugh on Foxworth: “He didn’t seem to be hesitant at all. He seemed confident and looked strong, so that was a pleasant thing to see.” Woow...I started out wanting to share a few thoughts and observations and it's become "War and Peace"... Well...it's the beginning of a great time of year for Ravens football fans. What do you think Ray? "I couldn’t be more excited to kick the season off right now. Healthy, I cannot describe to you how healthy I am right now. I’m really excited for football.”

Now I like this result from the new CBA... From $13 mil a year to $5.5. It was disgusting what the NFL was paying out to unproven players. They might as well have been burning 'Our' money right in front of our face. We fund this thing dammit.

The Ravens haven't lost one stud starter at CB. They are way better off this year because the got Jimmy Smith and that's 1/2 of the field we don't have to worry about. Last year we had to worry about all of it. Foxworth is running all out without any knee brace ect. He covered Smith very well yesterday according to reports. Webb is a beast. Between those two and Jimmy Smith the Ravens will have 2 very good corners. Jimmy Smith could develop into a Revis or assumaganndaaaahhhh...but he's close in talent...we'll see. Asssi would have killed and hamstrung the Ravens CAP for years...it would have been a very wrong move for the team since they did draft Jimmy Smith. Remember: Last year the media experts said the Ravens secondary sucked but those guys developed to the point that other teams covet them. The coaching and scheme is there to do the same or better this year. Yea...Wilson and Carr are good solid football players. So is Webb and Foxworth. Then there are guys in the CB pipeline, one of whom may shine. I really think the Ravens are fine at CB.
-
I liked Willis but he's very replaceable. The Ravens have more speed and power at RB in their rookies.
-
The Ravens were never a player for him. Good news is: He went to the NFC & the Yets didn't get him.
-
Right now the Ravens are 4-5 mil under the CAP. If they can get Ngata inked over the weekend then they can be a player in the market. The smart teams are being patient and waiting for the market to settle. There are still a lot of needs...mainly depth. Back up QB, DE, FB, RT or LT,...then getting Mason or Heap back.

I'm posting the whole quote from the Kevin Byrne article on the Ravens website. That's our GM.

All at once he finds Jesus, goes celebate and gets married...right...this is one confused jerk.
-
Anthony Allen...he's a beast. Here's a Breey video...

LOL! What a waste of money. Glad Chester is gone. He was definately a weakness. Could play a lot of positions but could not play 1 position well.
