Iam a little. those two shanks last week were horrendous, against a better QB led team, we might have lost...Theres was no weather to blame it on, no hostile crowd just flat out shanks. Magnify it with his blocked punt week 1, the guy is in a funk.

I can relate, as i was a punter it only takes a blink of an eye to throw off the timing,

Sure hope he straightens it out, caus hes a big part of the team when the offence flutters

He had 1 bad game. He is fine.

Not just one bad game. He sucked in the playoffs last year. Those shanks are becoming more frequent and they're just as bad as turnovers. I am concerned about Koch

I am not overly concerned. Maybe he is in a funk, but all players go through it, regardless of the sport. He'll be just fine. I am sure of it.

He about a 47 yd average. I think they were trying to kick away from their return guy last week.

Since when is a block a punter's fault unless he lines it into the DL?

Always his fault, sorry dc you get the snap if you don't see your jersey colors, you scream FIRE, when the snap is coming back you know if they broke your blocking or not,

Slow getting the punt off took a bad step there's a lot that could go wrong.

True.

But I think he'll straighten out. He was trying to kick away from the return guy like Papa said.

This was his first bad game of this season. I'm just saying I distinctly remember him stinking it up a few times in the playoffs last year, including one during the SB. Hard to find useful statistics on punters but his postseason average was about 10 yards less than this regular season average. At any rate just something for the coaches to keep an eye on.

Someone's heading to the doghouse

Sam Kochicon-article-link.gif is a Pro Bowl-caliber punter to whom Baltimore gave a five-year contract extension in February of 2011. He was named to the USA Football All Fundamentals Team in 2010.

But something has gone awry for Koch recently.

In Cleveland, he shanked a 25-yard punt that helped set up the Browns for their final clock-eating drive to seal a 24-18 victory. He also hit two touchbacks instead of pinning Cleveland deep.

“He’s struggling a little bit in games,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said after Sunday’s loss in Cleveland. “He’s had one or two bad punts every game. That’s not Sam.”

Well as a team the Ravens have always played down to other teams maybe this is just a player playing down with the other players?

Hes right there with Ray Rice, worn out and DONE

I actually started noticing a regression last year.

I tend to think (much like a golfer) that if a punter's form is off even just a tiny bit, the results can be magnified greatly.

30 years ago I would agree 100% guys today don't kick the booming punts like landetta or ray guy or me :)

They kick the ball end over end or pooch it

I think this is very true. Unless a team has a great return guy, team seem to want to kick to a guy. Let him return and smash him.

I don't seen many corner kicks anymore

He's taking his first steps out of the NFL.

You always need a good punt, but in critical times of the game he's been whiffing.

The battle of field position starts with a good punt. The D gets a stop. Then you hope the other punter whiffs or that you get a good return to set the O up.

It's hard to put up points having to drive 80-90 yards every time. This was one of the reasons (of many) the Ravens lost to the Browns....field position.
