Seahawks QB Coach Dave Canales Requested for Interview in AFC North

The Seattle Seahawks could now find themselves in danger of losing one of their longest-tenured coaches.

The Baltimore Ravens have requested to interview with Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Dave Canales for their vacant at offensive coordinator, per reports Saturday from ESPN.

The Ravens parted way with offensive coordinator Greg Roman on Thursday.

Canales, who has been an assistant with the Seahawks since 2010, was a major reason for the success that quarterback Geno Smith had during his Pro Bowl campaign this season. While Smith surprised the league due to his own personal late-career growth, his performance is now unofficially helping Canales earn more recognition from around the league.

Landing the offensive coordinator job in Baltimore is far from set in stone, but Canales' potential departure would end what has been a long-standing career for him in Seattle with coach Pete Carroll.

After beginning as a strength coach at USC alongside Carroll, Canales followed the would-be legendary Seahawks to Seattle in 2010. He served as the team's receivers coach from 2010-17 before focusing on quarterbacks and the passing game.

Canales could find himself with a Ravens team that has some uncertainty surrounding the future of star quarterback Lamar Jackson.

It shouldn’t be to hard to find someone with less football savvy than John Harbaugh. High school ranks maybe?

That’s why. Harbaugh surrounds himself with less football savy than himself. Proofs in the pudding. We’ll see?

Here is an excellent article by Zrebiec on the Ravens head coaching search. It will bring you totally up to date and explain a lot as to why we're 2 1/2 weeks into the search and might not know anything until after the SB.

Well far better for us old time Raven marauders to follow rules

When he needed to find a replacement in 2014 for Jim Caldwell, who departed to become head coach of the

Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh spoke to more than 30 offensive coordinator candidates. The process took two weeks and ended with Harbaugh hiring Gary Kubiak.

It’s already been 2 1/2 weeks since offensive coordinator Greg Roman moved on in what’s being portrayed as a “mutual” decision, and Harbaugh’s quest to find his replacement is getting closer to completion. However, Harbaugh still has interest in potentially speaking with members of the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs coaching staffs, which means the Ravens could wait until a few days after Sunday’s Super Bowl before making a decision.

This is what we know about the situation, based on talking to sources involved with the process: Harbaugh has already had second interviews in Baltimore with three candidates after the first interviews were done via video call. Those three candidates are University of Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Minnesota Vikings pass game coordinator and tight ends coach Brian Angelichio, and former Ravens wide receivers and tight ends coach and Wisconsin offensive coordinator Bobby Engram.

At least two more candidates are expected in town Monday and Tuesday: Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Dave Canales and Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Justin Outten.

Hey thanks, Tsyl

There's some successful guys on 'the list' and at least one head scratcher in the  Denver case.

I just really hope they're waiting on the freedom of the offensive guys in KC and Philly and that they're not just stalling before naming somebody from within.

And like you, I'm a Monken fan.
