vmax Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) I've have heard only bits and pieces from the State of the Ravens address but this much is clear to me: Lee Evans is gone...“If [Evans] catches that and Joe goes in and slays New England and we’re in the Super Bowl, then [critics] would have said, ‘Wow, he really did play well,’” Bisciotti said. Newsome said. “Joe wins. If he continues to win, if one pass is caught, he’d be in the Super Bowl. Grubbs won't be a Raven....“Ray and Joe Flacco will be part of this football team next year, guaranteed.” Bisciotti said. I figure that Jarrett Johnson will be a Colt.Birk retires.Foxworth is gone.Carr...gone.Zibby...gone. Oh...let's get some balance in our outlook on Dickson...he can block and Pita can't and...Tight end Ed Dickson had 21 catches on third down, the most in the AFC and tied with Dallas’ Jason Witten for second most behind New Orleans’ Jimmy Graham (22) in the NFL. http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/2012/02/01/did-you-know/ Edited February 1, 2012 by vmax Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Of course some people will be gone moron, the point was the rebuilding occurred already and you missed the train. You're wrong. Pollard was a great signing, this defense needed a safety to step up and allow Ed Reed to concentrate on coverage. All of the player's I listed were contributors. You saying they didn't live up is weak. Show me where a team, year after year, has no disappointments in the draft. It seems someone needs to grow up and understand the realities of life in the NFL. The vert signings provided depth and will most likely not be back in a lot of cases. Williams was a great signing, because a tool like you would have said Oz was an idiot if Rice went down and we "kept everything in house". That was the weakest defense you've ever had on this board. Redding: Yes you can, that's why this year, he'll finally be let go You know what I can't even continue to humor you. It's just not worth it. No need to go around with your retarded understanding of football. So did they make you jump in the bay for your own cause on Sat? First of all I commend you on admitting it. Most people who act like dicks deny it when called out. However blaming it on other people is kind of weak. They do not force you to be condescending, they do not force you to post frequent 'I told you so' posts, they do not force you to become snippy and upset when people do not agree with your analysis. Simply put you act like a dick, ass in your words, because you simply feel like it, or cannot help it. I have not started calling names like a 4 yo. But maybe I should start. I seem to get them. The only difference is no holds bared with me. Tool and moron are so trite. In order to get Ray Rice to sign, shouldn't the Ravens get the line taken of ? I would think a running back that could command attention from other teams would want a decent line provided for him. As far as Dickson, I would love to have him represent. I am just afraid you cant brake old habits and he has droped catchable passes all the way through college and has not seemed to improve. Big TE's are the trend now and I just wonder if there are other ones out there that are more consistant than Dickson. Grubbs always seem to be the one lineman you would see get upfield to block for Ray on screens. Torrey was a dropaholic at UMD and to start here. These things can be worked on. There have been many players who droped the ball all the time and worked past it. Quote
dc. Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Papa, I just don't get it with you. You are the one that started this conversation on craptastic footing. That seems to be the usual way. Your "holier than thou" and "you're awful understanding of football" attitude is pervasive in every post you make. You can't seem to have a conversation. It's always a competition, a debate, a "who can prove more to who" moment. This forum has all kinds of fans - those who know a lot and those who don't, those who want to analyze and those who just want to chat. Someone disagreeing with you may not know what they are talking about... so what? Wipe your hands. Tell them you're not on the same page and move on. This is meant to be a place where someone can voice an opinion or a thought and not get 100% trounced all the time. When someone says they want to see the Ravens trade for Adrian Peterson and then have the best 1-2 punch on the ground in the league, they don't need a lecture or lesson in not dreaming. It's just as easy (and effective) to say, simply and kindly, that it's likely not going to happen. But so long as you continue to tell people that their opinions aren't worth as much as yours and as long as you continue to slam any other analysis as "amateur" (are you getting paid for yours, by the way?), you're going to get a lot of flak for it. Look at your post above listing every player and your opinion. I could and do strongly disagree with a lot of the analysis - Leach, Reed especially. But so what? We disagree. It's not 100% either way. It's not black and white. For example, you attack Pollard above as not being good in pass coverage. Guess what? I agree. But I don't agree that he's worthless as a result. In one sentence you're critiquing this team for not being 'retooled' and ready to go under cap. In the next, you appear to want perfection at every position. How exactly do you get a bruising, hard hitting, great coverage, ball hawking, do-it-all safety for less than a flawed safety? How do you do that for every position? To me, it's a give and take. I'll take Pollard, imperfections and all, given our current situation. What's your analysis there? Where do I see you understanding the 'give and take'... the imperfections and flaws that accompany every greatness in a player? I don't. So, I disagree with you on Pollard. And Lewis. And Leach. And Reed. And Birk. And many more. Now, go ahead and talk down to me and understand that it will make you look like a jerk - because you will be a jerk. 1 Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I have for yrs said they should get young. I do not believe in keeping heros because they are heros. I have said for a long time to build via the draft. I do not see that as being a bad thing. Pleese tell me how it is. Quote

We have rebuilt through the draft I posted a tone of the starters and contributors with less than 4 yrs exp. We have drafted very well to get so many quality players. The fact remains as stated above we simply cannot get a be all player with every pick and no matter who you are, we're gonna miss with a couple of picks. Quote
REEDPIXOFF Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 The Ravens salary cap for 2012 can actually be as high as 132.5 million. We can carry over 6m from 2011 that wasn't used plus we can borrow 1.5m from future years. Also, cutting Foxworth and Evans will clear out another 10 million. - Rice will be franchised - Grubbs will probably be overpaid by someone so the o-line will definitely need some work. Maybe Jason Brown will make a return if the Rams decide to dump that contract. - Everyone else is replaceable Quote
JPPT1974 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Flacco isn't going anywhere as the team wants to sign him to a long term extension. As now with Caldwell as QB coach, just the step into making him into an elite passer. Quote

As now with Caldwell as QB coach, just the step into making him into an elite passer. Exactly, and if this franchise released Joe, what would that say about them..You dont think the Falcons, Bengals, Browns, Jets, Skins, Eagles, Raiders Seahawks, Lions ETC wished that their team went to the playoffs 4 years straight, and to the Championship 2 out of the 4 years? I know losing the Championship game stings, hell its been 2 weeks, and I still kick the dog!! Im miserable as hell, I hope the Eff Gronks ankle is broke in 3 places...But under any circumstances do I want to see the Ravens unload Joe.. Why is it only Baltimorons that want Joe gone, I heard a piece from ESPN's Sal Pal yesterday, we are are the the ones that need our heads examined, Sal Pal stated that Joe is just a step below elite. He blamed the entire game on Lee Evans (I agree) What if the SOB caught it? what would the negative nelly's around town think of Joe then? Quote

So replacing your anchor and your oar at the same time, is it really such a good thing? I am guessing you are saying Ray and Reed. I go back to letting guys who have since left go further back. I would not have inked Heap a 2nd time. He should have been traded. I said the same of Suggs but he is proving me wrong. They just need to find another person to maximize his production. If the moves had been made back then you would have guys that are in their prime. No you just generally act like a child in other ways. Constantly and consistenly. yagersports Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 We have plenty of guys in their prime, the proper mix of savy Vets, and a great core of youngsters. You've lost the debate. It stings I know, but there is something to be said of a graceful exit and applauding your opponent. Grasping at straws saying that you would have made 2 moves several years ago, one of which self admittedly would have been wrong does not prove that either Oz doesn't know what he's doing or that you do know. Simply acknowledge this team is very well set up for the future. Ray and Reed will be very hard to replace, that is the challenge ahead of us. Quote
cravnravn Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Has Kruger grown enough to replace JJ? Kruger has had his moments, but JJ has been a mainstay on D and hasnt missed a game in 4 years. Thats some big shoes to fill. Quote

Thats some big shoes to fill. Also, I know it's an outside shot, but Kindle could be an "X" factor here. If Kindle could return to the form that we drafted him, Krueger would remain a pass rush specialist I would think. It would be nice if Kindle would train with Ray or Suggs. Ray mostly. Inevitably Kindle will more than likely not work out as it seems his work ethic and handicaps may be too much to overcome. Quote

Thats some big shoes to fill. One of those guys... McClain, Ellerbe, Kruger, Ayanbadejo, McPhee? or one of the other guys... one of them will be able to fill in for JJ, and we'll likely draft a guy or two as well - and likely one in the first two rounds. As much as we've struggled to find WR's, one place we haven't struggled is finding hardnosed linebackers to play next to Ray. From Sharper and Boulware to Hartwell and Scott, to Adalius Thomas and JJ... one position that we've consistently gotten success from have been the LB's. Either we'll draft some guys, or grow some of our own. I wouldn't worry about that one. Quote

oldno82 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I think Kruger will be able to take JJ's place. He showed a lot this year in the limited amount of time he played. But, Ozzie is right that we need someone to complement Suggs in the pass rush---maybe Kruger is that guy. Quote
vmax Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 When I think of "play like a Raven" I think of JJ.It's a cold business...I don't want to lose JJ, but they can get somebody younger and faster at that position....but getting a relentless, physical madman like him? Not so easy.Ozzie said he's always looking for and trying to get pass rushers. I don't know what injuries these guys were battling towards the end of the season, but JJ and Redding looked like they really slowed down. Ngata hid an injury all season long that stopped him from destroying the league. Cody started to fade....even McPhee. Their lack of production/pressure allowed teams to focus on shutting down Suggs. That's a statement "We don't have to worry about these guys, only Suggs." The truth is that some O lines like Houston and the Pats were pushing them around....so...this is one place the Ravens can get better and have to get better. Quote
