For me as a slightly less than casual world cup viewer, having witnessed 3 goals called back in the last two tournaments which afterwords commentators seemed to agree were bad decisions - doesn't exactly sell the sport.

Well I came here to bitch someone out because I thought I read here that the US game started at 7:30 this morning. Guess who got up at 7:30? But reading through the thread I see it was my mistake.

Well now where will I get dragged to whenever in-laws from out of town are here to visit? I havent been in years, not a big fan of big theme restaurants. Its a nice big area, I really hope they can fill it soon.

Pretty great game and good series. I would not have been surprised if the Blackhawks swept the Flyers, I really do think they are much better, but not only did the series go 7 games all but one game was really close. Weird winning goal wasnt it?

OK, I had heard him refute or partially refute long ago. Maybe he is more open about it now. It doesn't really matter to me. I am not claiming Angelos is easy to get along with or isn't a prick. I have just heard the same thing about Davey Johnson so I refuse to blame his departure solely on one of them.

Jon Miller, wtf? Either way you didnt like Billick and even with his success after 2001 you wanted him gone despite your statement "He knows how to win so leave him alone.". Johnson was every bit, if not more, arrogant than Billick. The personality conflict that led to Johnson's leaving, I certainly dont blame one of them - I think they share the blame. Miller was a great guy and broadcaster and the popular story is Pete fired him for being too critical of the Orioles, yet Miller himself has refuted that story a few times. I dont know what really happened. And I am sure it has nothing to do with the Orioles hunt for a manager.

Well you of all people know that isn't exactly how it works. Even year where the Ravens did well you wanted Billick gone because you didn't like him. Didnt you have a signature that stated as much? He won so why didnt you want him left alone? So if an owner cannot get along with the manager, and the manager cannot get along with the owner - then something is bound to happen. Its also debatable how much of a winner Johnson was in his later years. He did well here but wore out his welcome quickly in LA. We'll see who gets offered the job and who doesnt take it. The simple fact is very few big league managerial jobs are turned down.

I only saw about half of the game tonight. It sounds like it was fun. It was loud.

Peter wasnt the only one at fault in not getting along with Davey Johnson. He isnt exactly easy to get along with. When there are so few jobs available as there managerial jobs in the big leagues, there are always people who want the job. Any job. Also at this point the team is so bad, it probably couldnt help but get at least a bit better. So a manager would pretty much have nothing to lose in taking the job. Meanwhile this season keeps getting worse, at this rate the team may have a shot at being one of the worst teams in baseball history. Something to shoot for.

So a multinational company drilled a well in international waters they thought would make them billions of dollars of profit, and they decided to skirt some safety issues (nothing new for them) and not really have a plan in case things went wrong so now its the American governments (and taxpayers) problem to help fix. (Don't misunderstand me, at this point even though I am not happy about it this needs to be stopped at any cost even our cost) Given that and BP's initial thought it could stop the leak itself relatively quickly I can see why government was didnt jump right in. I can also see why some people think the response has been slow. Then again if three days after the accident if the US government takes over, I am sure they would have been slammed for interfering where they weren't supposed to. If every criticism of a disaster response, terrorist attack, or even pandemic is determined by political affiliation - we are doomed. That seems to be the direction we are heading. And if so we deserve to be doomed.

Random shrinking and expanding strike zones bother me most while watching a game, so I have thought the idea of a computer doing it. I agree, it wouldnt be hard at all. I still dont really think, deep down, that they should go to that.

As much as this was a horrible call, I still have mixed feelings over whether it should be over turned or even considered. There is no way this will even make MLB consider replay, and nor should it. If they had replay in baseball the games could go 4-5 hours. The last two minutes of each half of football drag badly some days, imagine baseball. Human error is part of the game, and probably always will be. I'd rather see computer called balls and strikes before replay. (and I dont want to see that)

Still thinking about this.....if there is any doubt at all in that situation you call him out. Even if you blow it, it goes away quicker than this will with much less hurt feelings. The Tigers say they are considering it a perfect game, which is nice I guess but its not legit.
