thundercleetz Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Tillman on the DL. I hope it's not serious but the road will be tough for us. We do have a favorable home schedule. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Yeah, Tilly was having a great year....sad for him... DD has failed to pull in a good pitcher. Maybe next...year under Gausman and Bundy's belts as starters. We'll see. Ubaldo is starting in Tillman's place... What the hell happened to Wilson when he came back up? Quote
dc. Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Wilson was never supposed to be legit. Period. Tillman-Bundy-Gausman is a fine first three. My problem with the assertions in this thread: how easy is it to find a good starter? Harder than we think. Last year we could have paid an arm and a leg for David Price. Or maybe Greinke. I would have loved to have either, but I am not sure at their prices. It would mean a 1-for-1 trade for Davis, really, which looking back right now may have been the wrong move but at the time - especially with unknowns from Trumbo and Kim among others - that would have had the whole world yelling that we don't care about our guys, etc. Paying for either them may well have also cost us the ability to pay for Machado - which is obviously still less than likely right now. We need to develop better pitching, but I don't see buying it as the best option. Despite all the nay-saying, we're still only 2 games out, more than 10 games over 500, still in the playoffs right now as a WC... and really, our worst moments have consistently come on the west coast. Let's just avoid Seattle and all is good. Quote
Spen Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Sorry guys, had a summer cold for a while. Annoying. Anyway, I couldn't cheer as hard as normal for a week or so. My bad. If we miss by a few games, it's on me. Quote
vmax Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 3 games out, getting bombed and fading fast. They need a win today real bad. The whole team needs to show up. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 The Yanks have been so good since they were sellers. They are going back to what made that 96 team. I think the O's will be outside looking in with the WC next month. I can see them 4 games out of the WC. Quote
Spen Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 The knowledge that Tommy Hunter was back was enough to motivate the team to victory today! Quote
dc. Posted August 29, 2016 Author Posted August 29, 2016 You know, despite how bad this teams pitching is... I give us a better than 50/50 shot if having the AL Cy Young at season's end. That would be pretty wild. Quote
vmax Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 It's High Noon.Got to take at least 2 out of 3 from the Blue Jays.Tall order. Quote
dc. Posted August 31, 2016 Author Posted August 31, 2016 Just wish someone would tell me what Duquette should have done... Aside from generic "sign better pitchers" Maybe problem is largely coaching them? Quote
papasmurfbell Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Come on the just sign someone mantra got us Ubaldo. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Ubaldo, Gallardo and Miley. None of them more than a #3 starter. Miley and Ubaldo have both had two solid starts though, but Diamond Dan has yet to get one decent pitcher or shown he has tried. I'm still pissed we gave up Arrieta after reading the SI article on him. That strongly points to the pitching coach. DC, I will also agree with you that our coaching also seems to be the problem. Minors or Majors, our pitching has never been our strong point. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 These issues existed before Dan and I expect they willl exist after Dan. What is the common denominator? Quote
GrubberRaven Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 I think our farm system was stronger under McPhail honestly. I really blame coaching. Quote
thundercleetz Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 I think the problem is system wide instruction. To my untrained eye, it seems guy lose velocity and confidence when they come through our system. Something is missing with our instruction. If I were GM, I'd try and promote guys from systems like St. Louis and San Francisco to try and implement that culture here. Quote

vmax Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 O's are not out of it. When the dust settles, they will win a wild card spot. Quote
Spen Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 O's are not out of it. When the dust settles, they will win a wild card spot.Nope, not over yet! I'm still enjoying them. Quote
cravnravn Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 come on gang, a series win vs the Spankees, and 2 shutouts to boot. 2 back from the division lead, in control of the 2nd wild card...All is well Quote
GrubberRaven Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I'll refrain from any further comments until we're in. I still don't like Diamond Dan. Quote
