tsylvester Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Pats looking to land Cooks in trade for Butler +. Wow, if they get him, they would have to be a favorite to repeat. Quote
vmax Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 I'm very surprised about the reports that the Ravens are still in the mix for Brandon Williams. Quote
oldno82 Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 I know I'm dreaming but it would be great to get Terrell Pryor and Logan Ryan. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted March 10, 2017 Author Posted March 10, 2017 Williams re-signed for 5 years! Quote
OutsideRzAcE Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Awesome - so happy they found a way to keep Williams. Quote
vmax Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Great to wake up to this! Terms: Five-year, $54 million deal that includes $27.5 million guaranteed. The average of $10.8 million per season is the highest for a nose tackle and ranks eighth among defensive tackles. Williams' guaranteed money is seventh-highest among defensive tackles.ESPN 150 ranking: No. 1Grade A: He’s No. 1 on ESPN’s free-agent rankings. It doesn’t get any better than this. The Ravens believe Williams is the best nose tackle in football, and they backed that up with their tireless pursuit of him. Williams is a premier run-stopper. He can rush the quarterback. He’s an unselfish leader. Now, Williams is an integral part of the future of the Ravens defense, along with cornerback Jimmy Smith and linebacker C.J. Mosley. What it means: The Ravens will continue to have one of the best run defenses in the NFL. Williams either gets double-teamed (which frees up teammates) or makes the play in the backfield. How much of an impact does Williams make? With him on the field, Baltimore allowed 3.5 yards per carry since 2013. Without Williams, the Ravens gave up 4.2 yards per carry. Baltimore could have easily invested the money elsewhere because the Ravens have a history of developing interior linemen and were impressed by undrafted rookie Michael Pierce. But with defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan set to become a free agent after this season, the Ravens’ best tandem going forward is Williams and Pierce..........http://www.espn.com/blog/baltimore-ravens/post/_/id/34280/ravens-make-big-splash-in-retaining-brandon-williams-to-anchor-defensive-line Quote
tsylvester Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Good move. Fair deal for both sides, now they just need corners, linebackers, ends....wide receivers, offensive linemen... Quote
GrubberRaven Posted March 10, 2017 Author Posted March 10, 2017 SO there needs to be a slew of cuts today, right? Quote
tsylvester Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 not nuts if it works out, lot of money for a 2nd round pick next year if it doesntThey are the Browns and this seems nuts http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/patriots-reportedly-want-clevelands-no-1-overall-pick-in-package-for-garoppolo/ Quote

papasmurfbell Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Awesome - so happy they found a way to keep Williams. That is to high. In a couple yrs that contract will come back to bite them. I see Ngata all over again. Quote
tsylvester Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 He is better than Cambell and the Ravens got him for less. He is young, if he stays healthy, it is a great deal. Gnata got banged up, never did fully recover; that was the issue. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Both could have been signed early for a discount. Both got paid the most for their position. I am thinking this will not go well. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted March 10, 2017 Author Posted March 10, 2017 Is there anything you've ever liked that the Ravens did? Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Sure. I loved the Ogden pick. I loved the Smith signing. I loved the new contract they gave Forsett. Those are just off the top of my head. Quote

Does it ever occur to you that the org tries to do that but the players know they'll make more come free agency? 1 Quote

You know this how papa old friend? Do we know if the Ravens were renegotiating all last year or the year before to extend him? Just because the media didn't cover it or his agent didn't say anything does not mean they waiting until now to talk. I am no fan of Ozzie's right now, never been high on Dick Cass and his way of working the cap, but some players want to test free agency, want to be wooed as it were before they settle. Quote
tsylvester Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Pita reworks his contract, will remain on the team.. Quote
tsylvester Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Skins sign Prior, 1 year, $8 mil. Pats make trade, get Cooks, & a 2017 4th round pick. Saints get 2017 first round & 3rd round picks from Pats. Quote
