RavensNest8483 Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Adam Shefter is reporting that Rex has the inside track to the Rams head coaching job. I don't want Rex to leave, that would blow ass. Hopefully, this doesn't become a distraction during the playoffs either. http://blogs.nfl.com/category/adam-schefter/?campaign=ec0005 Quote
vmax Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 If true...I don't think it will be a distraction....his players love him and will play even harder...sort of a "Last Hurrah" thing. "Sorry Rex...I'm not going with you." Quote
ravinmaniac52 Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Don't always believe what Adam Shefter is saying. I wouldn't put Jim Haslett out of the picture. How many caoches are going to jump at the chance at coaching the Rams? They will have a new owner soon, maybe a move, who know it could be back to LA. Quote
ForceEight Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I think it's still Haslett's job. ESPN (who I actually prefer to the tool that is Adam Schefter) reported this morning, before the game, that the players as a whole wanted him to stay. Quote
BMoreHon Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I wonder if Rex would even want to go to that train wreck... Quote
smokeyjon Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 The organization is on the fast track to a Super Bowl win, even if it's not this year. I'd think Rex would stick around for it. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Rex will take the first best offer he can find. He has been screwed by his fathers reputation. He will grab one this yr if it is offered. Quote
thundercleetz Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I just hope he doesn't take the Cleveland job. Not for our sake, but for his! Quote
STLRaven Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Word on the street in STL is that the Rams players really want to play of Haslett for a full season. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept him around for 2 years as a transition coach before bringing in a "face of the franchise"-type coach once the team is decent. But if Rex came to STL, I'd meet him at the airport and personally show him around. Quote

The Ryan interview is Sunday. But like most of the other interviews, the interview is probably in LA. Quote
yagersports Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Rex leaving is an inevitability, it will happen, if not this year, then in one of the next two years to come. I'm most concerned with how we replace him. I'm hoping the Ravens have someone in mind to replace Rex that will incorporate similar defensive schemes and principles. I was not a big fan of the defenses the Ravens fielded after Lewis left until Rex took over. I really like the crazy schemes the Ravens have going on, it's alot of fun to watch. Quote
52isUnstoppable Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 i just saw on that report that Rob ryan is the D coord in cleveland? Thats pretty cool, the ryans brothers going against each other twice a year. Quote
SpearSrai Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 What's the big deal about Rex leaving? Have we ever had trouble replacing a coach in the past? Mike Smith and Jack Del Rio were just hanging around on our roster, waiting for gigs, until they found better jobs elsewhere. I say Greg Mattison steps right into Rex's role without missing a beat. Our defense may even improve *gasp*. Quote
ForceEight Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I don't think Mattison will be the choice. He's never been a fan of the NFL like he has college, and the only reason he came here from Florida was because of Harbaugh. Remember also that this is his first year ever coaching in the pros. Harbaugh might want him, but I don't think it's his job. Quote
SpearSrai Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I'm obviously biased towards him as a Gators fan, but he did do a great job with our defense in 2006. I think he could have success in the Pros. Quote
ForceEight Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I do too, but evidence suggests that the man doesn't really even want it. I don't necessarily trust him with an entire NFL defense after only one season, either... Quote

ForceEight Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I'm arguing desire, not ability. However, the fact that he's coached in college for over thirty years exemplifies how he may be set in his ways and essentially invalidates that argument of one team in one year. Quote

Yea, I, too, was concerned about the eventual replacement for Rex upon his departure. My vote would go for Clarence Brooks he seems to be a close protege of Rex's and has probably inherited many of his defensive theories. Another potential replacement from our current coaching roster could be Chuck Pagano. Quote
cravnravn Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 The 2006 Gators weren't that far from an NFL defense... Please, the best team in the NCAA couldn't compete with the Detroit Lions. Quote
