ForceEight Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Not quite yet. There’s apparently a rumor floating around that the NFL will suspend Ravens running back Ray Rice two games under the personal-conduct policy for his offseason assault on the woman who later became his wife. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Rice has not yet been informed of a suspension, or of the expected duration of a suspension.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/24/rice-hasnt-been-informed-of-suspension-yet/ Quote

ForceEight Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Way to send a message it's better to knock women out then get accused of something.Better to have a mutual domestic dispute with your soon-to-be wife that results in a violent hit than "allegedly" rape a girl? Yeah, I guess it is. Slightly. Quote
varaven45 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 At least we are bringing the matter to closure. Quote
varaven45 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 And if nothing else, it will put Pierce, Forsett in the spotlight for the first 2 weeks of regular season .By the time week 3 rolls around, Rice should be ready to explode and put the "bad" season and 2.2 ypc behind. Quote

Yeah, I guess it is. Slightly.A mutual domestic dispute now that's funny. If this was anyone but a famous person they would be behind bars right now. HE KNOCKED HER OUT! No matter what she did to him he did not have the right to knock her out. There are so many glaring holes in the stories against Ben. I'm not going to go any further then that because it would stray way off topic. Quote

It's fun to compare Rice's incident and suspension to Gordon's or Ben's, but they are on a different level. I also don't feel like getting off topic and rehashing Rice's charges in the first place, but there is a clear difference between Rice's case and these: premeditated and repeated use of very clearly illegal drugs/DUI, and "alleged" and by definition premeditated rape (of which there were multiple stories). The fact of the matter is that what happened with Rice and his fiance was a drunken incident that got way too far, but was understood by all parties (excluding fans and overzealous attorneys) the next morning as a really ugly thing that happened between a couple. And yeah, I would even agree that the words I'm using for each incident sound biased and fit my point of view, but the fact that I can do that in and of itself lends to the lighter severity of Rice's issue versus Ben's and Gordon's. One of my buddies got 30 days for telling his wife he was about to slap the shit out of her. I was standing right there when it happened and that is all that happened. Ben got 6 reduced to 4 over allegations that didn't hold any water. Quote

A large reason the Rice issue isn't as big as some want it to be is because, considering whatever reason, his fiance isn't up in arms about the situation and is still happily with him. Quote

Go read all the information out there. How can it be rape when you break up with your boyfriend because you're "dating" big Ben. She bragged to her friends and family and her own brother said she was lying. The second one didn't even want to go to the police due to it being consensual but her friend coaxed her into it. She gave FIVE different statements to the cops FIVE. They got what they wanted. Quote
Tornado700 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I am both relieved and happy. Relieved that it's over with. Happy that it is only 2 games. I am certain that a lot went into this decision. Did she attack him first whereas Ray was placed in a situation to defend himself.Did he actually INTEND to knock her unconscience. The answer to that is- of course not.Ray's prior criminal behavior. Was Ray a stand up guy representing the NFL prior to this incident. What is the likelihood of this happening again. What did the criminal justice system do about this incident. And probably many more questions.Based on all of these questions, Ray Rice received a 2 game suspension. Fair? Absolutely. Quote

She admits to smacking him a few times before he, instead of restraining her, smacks her back, she then falls back and down, hitting her head, which knocker her out by the way, on the arm rail in the elevator. Ben got 6 reduced to 4 over allegations that didn't hold any water. I guess one thought on the matter could be this: What's the suspension norm for when a player gets in a fight in general? I am sure there are examples out there. (Most don't get in trouble for fighting on the field of course). Now, should the penalty be any different because the other person in the fight was:a) a woman?b) a partner in a relationship?c) knocked unconscious? I don't really know the answer to question one. Again, I am sure we could find out. But I am not sure that any part of the second question requires a harsher punishment. All that said - I think he probably deserved four games. The League is just silly about some things. Quote
vmax Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 It's going to be really hard for me to respect and cheer for Rice.I'm trying to be open minded....his past behavior has been exemplary. He was a great guy and power of example. One drunken night wrecks all of that. Why do we label and judge people for life?Is he really a scum bag for life? Quote
oldcrow Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 holy shit James Harrison gets one game less than Ray Rice he knocked someone out playing the game Ray Rice knocked her the hell out and only gets two games I wished for more games and not because he is a ravens player butt for the crime he committed I hope this is not over. vmax Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Domestic violence isn't isolated to the Ravens or Rice. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune database, 21 of 32 teams last year had a player on their roster who had a domestic or sexual violence charge on their record.Perhaps until the league changes its sorry track record on this issue, it will continue to be a widespread problem in the league.
